New photos
CLICK HERE for some new photos from Barrow. I know it's been 2 weeks since my last post, but things have been busy here, with very little time for photo opportunities. Dora Nelson, a high school teacher from North Carolina, has been here hanging out with us for the last couple of weeks, which has been fun. She left and Dr. Shepson arrived this weekend, so I'm sure that this week we will be busy updating Shep on what has gone on while he was gone. He leaves on Saturday morning, and my parents will be here Saturday evening for 5 days (it was kind of a Christmas present). After they leave, there is a large group of researchers coming into town to participate in a 2-3 week intensive study (LEADEX) out at a major lead (crack in ice where there is open water) on the ocean. We will be participants in LEADEX as well, so things will continue to be busy here in Barrow over the next month or so.
When I went to the shed on Thursday I discovered that a circuit board in my mass spectrometer has quit functioning. While I await the new parts to arrive I have been spending some time catching up on my sleep, and working on a few other small projects that had been put aside. As soon as the parts arrive I will be back at work on the autosampler, as I was really close to being at the point where I could start taking regular ambient samples. I will try to keep everyone posted as things progress here!

Im sorry you live in that town.... deeply sorry. I cannot imagine the pain and suffering you most go through with it being so cold and flat and boring. I may be taking this the wrong way from your pictures and comments but it sounds like I have more fun when I mow my lawn. I am yet still fascinated by your pictures and am wondering if you could post or send me pictures of what the area looks like during the summer. Like, trees? lakes? the ocean not frozen? I live in Minnesota and I thought our winters were bad. which dont get me wrong, 60 below is not a cake walk. but in general we have moderate temps and we have trees! and grass! and hills! and lakes that are only frozen for 4 to 5 months out of the year. My email address is chad.halvorson@cingular.com
Oh and thats another thing.... No cell phones? Sad! That sucks man!
Help me Dude, I'm lost.
I was searching for Elvis and somehow ended up in your blog, but you know I'm sure I saw Elvis in the supermarket yesterday.
No honest really, he was right there in front of me, next to the steaks singing "Love me Tender".
He said to me (his lip was only slightly curled) "Boy, you need to get yourself a shiny, new plasmatv to go with that blue suede sofa of yours.
But Elvis said I, In the Ghetto nobody has a plasma tv .
Dude I'm All Shook Up said Elvis. I think I'll have me another cheeseburger then I'm gonna go home and ask Michael Jackson to come round and watch that waaaay cool surfing scene in Apocalypse Now on my new plasma tv .
And then he just walked out of the supermarket singing. . .
"You give me love and consolation,
You give me strength to carry on "
Strange day or what? :-)
